Pure Life Cat Food Review

Freeze dried meat is much better for your cat than the meat content baked into a kibble, and that’s one point in favour of Pure Life cat food.
It’s an Australian brand made by Hypro (makers of Hypro Premium as a regular kibble), and as a whole is quite a good option based on ingredients and affordability.
Let’s take a more in-depth look:

What the marketing says
The term Natural Boost refers to the freeze-dried meat pieces, and is good news for your cat.
Freeze drying is a method of removing moisture from food without harming nutrients like with any form of cooking. Removing water greatly extends shelf life as well, so it works well for pet food.
Grain free is always good to see as our cats don’t need grains – they’re carnivores. They don’t need the starchy carbs commonly found in any kibble, although we always expect some whether grain-based or plant-based.
I’m always skeptical of terms like no added hormones, as this doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t any hormones – more none were added in manufacturing the product.
Australian chicken may be a draw card for many, but lets analyse the ingredients to see how much Australian chicken there actually is…
What the ingredients really say
There are two components to this cat food – the freeze dried meat pieces and the kibble itself.
I’ve seen similar cat foods where the kibble is pretty much plant-based, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Pure Life. Another positive.
The kibble contains chicken meal but also faba beans and chickpeas as main ingredients. These keep costs down, and when it comes to non-animal ingredients I consider these better than grains, tapioca, potato, or other ingredients with little nutritional merit for a cat.
Chicken fat and chicken gravy round of the main ingredients (chicken gravy is a broth from production of the chicken meal ingredient as a dried protein powder – used to be called digest until it got a bad rap).
The rest of the ingredients are all minor inclusions, with the essential vitamins and minerals science has determined your cat needs to sustain a healthy life, plus some other nice inclusions.
Oils from sunflower, flaxseed, fish, and coconut are good to see, and should support your cat’s health and wellbeing as well as a shiny coat.
Egg, spinach, broccoli, kale, and kelp powders are all bonus ingredients you won’t find it cheaper cat foods, and I love to see chia seed and turmeric in a cat food even if these really are small inclusions.
Compared to many cat foods I have to say Pure Life comes across better. There are more meat-based cat foods, but they’re also much more expensive.
Pure Life cat food is a good mix of affordability and decent ingredients, and it’s Australian as well.
